During National Noise Action Week (11 – 15 May) the team at Sustainable Acoustics Ltd ‘SAL’ are absolutely thrilled to announce we have achieved a top-tier score as a certified B Corporation.

B Corporations™ are companies verified as meeting standards for social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. This embeds our purpose and plans for positive impact in our company DNA, so we’re aware of our impact on people and the planet.

Sustainable Acoustics Ltd has achieved a B Corp score of 153.5, positioning us within the upper tier of B Corps globally (within the top 0.2% of B Corps). In an industry sector - engineering - not typically associated with high sustainability performance, this is remarkable. To put this into context, the average UK SME would score around 50 points and to be accepted as a B Corporation a company needs to have a minimum of 80 points.

“Achieving B Corp certification at this level is a very significant milestone for us,”

said Peter Rogers, Co-founder and Managing Director;

“It formalises the values we’ve built the business around - delivering high-quality technical work while taking responsibility for our wider impact on people and the environment - both in our operations, throughout our value chain.”

This result was not achieved through incremental improvements, but from the start of the company’s journey; through a fundamental rethink of how acoustic consultancy contributes to human health, connection to nature, environmental performance, cultural place-making and regeneration of the built environment.

B stands for “benefit”- for people and the planet, not just shareholders. As part of our B Corporation certification, we will be publishing an Annual Impact Report going forwards.

Diana Rogers, Co-founder and Director of Sustainability, said:

“We are absolutely thrilled to have been recognised as a top tier B Corporation. It is fitting for us to kick off Noise Action Week with this announcement. Noise is recognised as the second largest environmental threat to human health – yet it remains widely overlooked. Whilst we tackle noise pollution, which is with us today, as a legacy of the industrial and post-industrial age – it reminds us to think carefully about the sounds we want to surround ourselves and future generations with.

Peter Rogers added:

“Now is the time to consciously design the soundscapes for the future. This will support the health and well-being of people and also wildlife. The latest evidence is telling us, ecology is also suffering the negative effects of noise pollution.”
