Angela Lamacraft has been honoured by the Institute of Acoustics for championing equity, diversity and inclusion.
July 2026 · EDI
We are absolutely delighted to share that one of our Senior Acoustic Consultants, Angela Lamacraft, has been formally recognised by the Institute of Acoustics (IOA) for her exceptional contribution to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) across the acoustics profession. We are all hugely proud of Angela for this well-deserved industry recognition.
Over the years Angela’s work with the IOA has contributed in many ways to help strengthen the industry and its EDI policies and practices. Angela has systematically embedded early-career representatives across the IOA's specialist groups, regional branches and standing committees - including taking a seat at Council itself. She has built a social events programme that made networking genuinely accessible and informal for those new to acoustics. And she launched a cross-professional networking event bringing together young engineers from multiple institutions, fostering a spirit of collaborative working that extends well beyond acoustics.
Angela’s work with the IOA has also included founding and chairing the IOA's EDI Working Group, developing and consulting on the Institute's EDI strategy, creating a code of practice for inclusive meetings and benchmarking the IOA against the Royal Academy of Engineering Ethics Framework.
Angela's work embodies exactly the kind of purpose-driven engagement that makes our field stronger. As a high-scoring B Corp, we know that genuine impact means going beyond technical excellence. It means building a profession which has an inclusive culture, is accessible for everyone in the field and embraces a culture of diversity. As Angela said, in the IOA EDI Strategy 2024-2026:
“Without diversity in our profession, there are likely to be questions that we do not even think to ask, let alone know the answers to.”
Angela went on to say,
“We can not improve the diversity of our profession by working alone: we need to work together to understand the challenge faced by our peers and how we can work together to overcome them or remove them entirely.”
As a verified B Corporation, we couldn’t agree more with this. In order to solve the problems of our time and create the system-changes we require across every level of society (workplace, education, healthcare, child-care, food systems, circularity, nature based solutions, net zero), we must work with our peers and colleagues in adjacent industries, as well as users of the built environment: and so importantly, we need to actively engaging with the next generation by working with schools and universities to help resolve the complex polycrisis. Angela has done just that with the IOA’s first schools competition. Starting at secondary level, expanding to primary, and later opening to individuals and teams up to the age of 25 through colleges and universities.
"Angela has supported the Institute of Acoustics by championing those that don't always have, or feel they have, a voice, in particular through her activities around Equity, Discrimination and Inclusion." - Institute of Acoustics.
Peter Rogers said,
“We are enormously proud of Angela and the recognition she has received from the IOA. Her commitment to making acoustics a more equitable and inclusive profession is an inspiration to all of us. Congratulations, Angela.”
Diana Rogers, went on to explain,
“Angela’s work highlights why diversity matters within - and far beyond - the acoustic profession. As we respond to rising mental health and SEND needs – and the awareness of those needs which always existed but were less well understood – the buildings and spaces being designed and built today must serve an increasingly diverse society. Achieving that goal requires diverse perspectives within acoustics and across the built environment, helping ensure the places we create are inclusive, resilient and fit for both current and future generations.”
