We are delighted to announce that our M.D. Peter Rogers has been selected by the Institute of Acoustics as Winner of the Richard Cowell Sustainability in Acoustics Award. Peter travelled to Edinburgh to collect his award on 8th May, being only the second recipient of this prestigious commendation.

David Waddington, President of the Institute of Acoustics, congratulated Peter on his selection:
“We are delighted to present the Richard Cowell Sustainability Award to Peter Rogers, in recognition of his outstanding commitment to sustainability and his leadership in aligning acoustics with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Peter has championed green practices within his own company, while also driving the IOA and ANC toward more environmentally responsible operations… Peter’s work has made a lasting impact, setting a benchmark for sustainability in our field and inspiring others to take action.”

The Institute of Acoustics Sustainability Award
The Richard Cowell Sustainability in Acoustics Award was created in 2019, when it was initially called the IOA Sustainable Design Award. This award is granted for pioneering sustainability in acoustics, with the IOA stating that:
“Peter has made a significant impact in creating a healthier and more sustainable future… leaving a legacy that benefits both present and future generations.”
The inaugural recipient, The Woolly Shepherd, received the award in 2019 for their unique range of natural acoustic absorbers. We are proud of Peter for his trailblazing work and are delighted that his efforts have been recognised by the Institute.

Our Work at Sustainable Acoustics
Sustainability is fundamental to the work we do at Sustainable Acoustics. In all facets of our company, we aim to uphold the highest standards of sustainability. We continue to strive for better – we have recently acquired ISO14001 certification, and our intention is to enhance our credentials by becoming a B Corp within a year and working with the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) to make concrete commitments in reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. We also maintain our commitment to reaching Net Zero by 2030, and we are making significant progress towards this goal.
Furthermore, we are aiming to expand our relationships in policymaking circles and continue to liaise with government departments and local representatives, ensuring that healthy soundscapes are not overlooked by those constructing the environments of tomorrow. We believe that a sustainable future must take into consideration our acoustic surroundings, and we welcome the attention that is being given to noise pollution, both locally and nationally.
Sustainability for the Future
Peter Rogers was thankful for his chance to raise awareness of how sustainability and acoustics are intricately linked, stating:
“Sound is ubiquitous and affects us all. It is an honour to be recognised by our professional body for being a leader in the field where acoustics and sustainability is concerned. I dedicate the award to our ongoing efforts as a Company to make the world a better place through sound, and my fellow Director Diana Rogers, who helped me develop the idea. I call on the rest of our industry to follow our lead and hope to see this award won by many following in our footsteps.”
We are thankful for Peter’s leadership in constructing a vision of the future that combines the importance of acoustics and the global goal to combat climate change. We are committed to ensuring that sustainable goals benefit all stakeholders, including future generations, and are proud of Peter for spearheading this mission.
