Sound Insulation Testing

assets/uploads/playsound.png

There are a number of reasons for sound insulation testing which can slot into 3 main categories. Testing to comply with statutory requirements, to inform the design, and to gather data.  We aim to future proof our projects.

It is a legal requirement that any newly built or converted residential dwelling sharing walls or floors, must conform to sound insulation standards set out in part E of the building regulations (2010).  It is part of the requirement, that at least 10% of any construction type must be tested to ensure that it meets the required standard of sound insulation. Testing may also be required to commission schools or in determining baseline separations for refurbishments.

Sustainable Acoustics is registered with the Association of Noise Consultants (ANC) for sound insulation, and a number of staff are registered with the ANC qualified to carry out sound insulation to conform with ISO 140, and the ANC good practice guide.

For feasibility and planning reasons, testing in the early stages of the project is very important.  We aim to:-

  • meet the planning conditions to satisfy the first requirements of BREEAM
  • reduce risk and to protect the new and existing environment
  • ensure the design is sustainable.
