Waterside Drive, Walton on Thames

Construction & Operational noise control at the new XCel Sports Hub

In line with BS5228 (2009 +amendment 2014), Sustainable Acoustics initially completed an Environmental Noise Assessment for the operational noise that can be predicted for the operation of the proposed sports facilities at Waterside Drive, London for Willmott Dixon.

Environmental noise assessment

This lead on to Sustainable Acoustics working withTurley Associates, on behalf of Elmbridge Council Estates, to prepare the Noise Chapter of an Environmental Impact Statement (ES) for the proposed new sports facilities at Waterside Drive, which is located on an disused landfill site. The reuse of this land provided challenges, and control of noise from the pitches and athletics track the need for landscaping using spoil form the site to screen residents and further controls for the amplified systems.

Planning permission was granted for a scheme including athletics, football and other sport facilities and a clubhouse. The scheme was completed and includes an events space on the top floor of the facility, now called Xcel Sports and Leisure facility, which had the amplified systems acoustically modelled and commissioned to the noise limits agreed with the Council.
