Sustainable Acoustics worked on the construction and operational noise control at the new XCel Leisure Complex and Sports Hub.

In line with BS5228 (2009 + amendment 2014), Sustainable Acoustics initially completed an Environmental Noise Assessment for the operational noise that could be predicted during the operation of the proposed sports facilities at Waterside Drive, London, for Willmott Dixon.

This led to Sustainable Acoustics working with Turley Associates, on behalf of Elmbridge Council Estates, to prepare the Noise Chapter of an Environmental Impact Statement (ES) for the proposed new sports facilities at Waterside Drive, which is located on a disused landfill site. The reuse of this land provided challenges, with noise control methods being required to control the noise from the pitches, athletics track, and amplified systems for the benefit of nearby residents. This led to the need for landscaping using spoil from the site to screen residents, as well as further controls for the amplified systems.

Planning permission was granted for a scheme including athletics, football and other sports facilities and a clubhouse. The scheme, now called Xcel Sports and Leisure facility, was completed and includes an events space on the top floor of the facility, which had the amplified systems acoustically modelled and commissioned to the noise limits agreed with the Council.
